Tolly recently spoke with Kelly LeBlanc, VP of Marketing at 6WIND regarding 6WIND’s high performance networking software, which deliver solutions required to drive this transformation, enabling new generation architectures on COTS servers.
Here are a few key elements that we gleaned from speaking with Kelly:
Solve Network Performance Challenges: Leveraging their deep background with DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit), 6WIND utilizes Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) servers to provide high performance networking. They can provide this through:
- Remove Linux bottlenecks in applications and hypervisors
- Fully utilize 10/40/100G Ethernet NICs
In addition their architecture allows an easy upgrade path from bare metal to virtualization and open environment compatibility.
Network Security: Taking their software expertise, 6WIND recently introduced Turbo IPsec, which is a ready to use IPsec VPN appliance. For all use cases, 6WIND Turbo IPsec software can be deployed directly on bare metal or as a virtual machine/VNF. The same binary is used in all deployment models. These software-centric approach provides service providers and large enterprises a compelling price/performance value proposition compared to traditional hardware providers. See an example of a use case below:
Mobile Network Infrastructure: In the graphic below, 6WIND Turbo IPsec is providing encryption services for mobile backhaul and inter-eNodeB. Kelly noted that 6WIND can provide a flexible and scalable infrastructure due to virtualization and also a fully redundant architecture.
